Mood of the Moment: Gaby Aghion and the house of Chloé Exhibition is now on view in New York City.   The exhibition and tribute of visionary Fashion Designer and founder of the house of Chloé Gaby Aghion (1921-2014) and the remarkable 70-year legacy of the iconic French fashion house, Chloé under her leadership.    150 designs on view include Chloe’s works on view include pieces by influential creative directors Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Gabriela Hearst, Clare Waight Keller, Natacha Ramsey-Levi, and Karl Lagerfeld.

Aghion, who started off in life as a Jewish girl from Egypt, called her fashion house CHLOE because she had a friend by that name and liked the roundness of the letters. Th whimsy of Chloe’s name and the cuteness its appearance suits Aghion’s design thesis: “the Chloe girl” wears light fabrics in simple forms. This style appears to have come to its greatest fruition under the leadership of Stella McCartney and her protege and then heir, Phoebe Philo.

”Just as fashion designers drape their models to make a garment, I was inspired to ”drape” the interior of the second-floor rooms of the museum with a sustainable material to create a backdrop for the story of Gaby Aghion and the work of House of Chloé designers.” Elliott Barnes, Architect.

Th exhibit proceeds chronologically, beginning in earnest during the Lagerfeld era and it intelligently and enjoyably shares Chloe’s evolution through a good number of representative pieces as well as some design notes, sketches, and videos.
