Beauty reality check: the fact remains that wrinkles increase with age no matter how awesomely you’ve taken care of your skin. Between skin care, concealers, and neck creams, we’ve all tried tons of products to camouflage signs of aging skin, and most of us will try anything labeled “lifting” or “firming.”
If the Botox and filler isn’t quite enough of an upgrade, and the facelift isn’t on the agenda, then Ultherapy may just be the way to go. This non-invasive ultrasound therapy is the only FDA-cleared procedure to lift the eyebrow, neck and under-chin.
What it’s about: By using the power of ultrasound, the process helps achieving a more youthful look.. from from the brow to chest area. For over five decades, ultrasound has been safely used throughout medical field. The Ultherapy facial toning therapy is considered by many to be a great alternative to conventional facelift. The technology has been established “as safe and effective in clinical studies and in more than 350,000 treatments worldwide.” Though it’s not exactly as potent as a facelift, it’s a nice alternative for a lift that gradually surfaces a better you.
Where to go: A cosmetic surgeon’s office! First, consult with a doctor that practices both plastic surgery and other non-invasive options to see if this is the right fit for your skin. We visited Dr. Karlinsky again of New Look New Life to find out more about Ultherapy. After taking a look at some “before and afters” of patients trying out the treatment with visibly reduced signs of aging, we thought we’d share the news with our readers.
How it works: During the hour-long session, the procedure stimulates collagen growth which boosts the skin to restore radiance and youthfulness. Directing the ultrasound across your face, the process stimulates the underlying collagen, nudging your skin to wake up. The ultrasound DOES have a mild discomfort or tingling during treatment that ceases once the session is over – so this isn’t exactly a massaging facial. As the ultrasound energy is described as “tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated.” With comfort levels varying for different patients, the sensation of the tingling only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.
What to expect: Many patients report to see mild skin improvements immediately after treatment, while the full benefit of Ultherapy will come to life within a few months. With the positive difference appearing gradually, no one besides yourself will really notice any major work- you just gradually look better and better. As the new collagen is restored beneath the skin, the treated area of the face or neck will look smoother (and brighter) with the full positive effect taking 6 months to a full year before reaching its potential. One of the most exciting benefits of this treatment is the neck area, a difficult area to cover signs of aging, and even more important nowadays since we are constantly looking down at our phones which cause more lines around the neck!
Though the treatment could be painful during the process, the visible improvements on the skin’s look and texture are too awesome to ignore, as Ultherapy really does make the neck area look tighter and firmer. Low-risk, the therapy is not associated with significant side effects other than short-term tenderness, tingling, and temporary bruising and numbness in some areas of the treated skin. After the therapy, the skin might be flushed at first, but the redness should be gone within a few hours. Some patients have reported the positive results and benefits of the treatment for a full year. And as we can’t exactly stop the skin from aging naturally, a repeat treatment to continue new collagen growth may be needed after a year.
Another awesome factor is there is no downtime with Ultherapy. You can return to regular activities immediately after treatment and there is no additional product or post-treatment measures required, which means all the time you will need to spend for the therapy is one hour! Zapping some collagen back to life sounds like an essential part of the master anti-aging skin plan. BEAUTY RESOLUTIONS: Ultherapy commentary by Brigitte Segura, written by Betty Lo.
