ZANG TOI ss17 Giverny Garden
Elegant and jovial made its way down the NYFW runway at Zang Toi’s Glorious Giverny Garden spring 2017 fashion show. Capturing the essence of a Parisian garden, Zang Toi’s new spring 2017 collection brings promises of ease and comfort. With hair swooped in effortless knots and makeup natural and barely there, all attention was focused on the sheer craftsmanship of the garments.
By creating this easy, effortless look, Toi illustrated more than elegant designs in his show; he portrayed a lifestyle of class, ease, and elegance.
As French music swelled through the classic monochrome room, guests found their seats and settled in with the anticipation of Zang Toi’s Spring 2017 collection. Models appeared on the runway in beige coats and cardigans accompanied by black trench coats. These looks were a noticeable contrast to Toi’s previous collections that had typically consisted of brightly colored capes and trench coats. However, Toi remained true to his tradition of having three separate parts of the show that encompassed everything from relaxed daily wear to striking evening gowns.
As the first three looks made their way down the runway, the practical beiges and blacks took on a Parisian twist with hints of floral, lilac details and celadon green appliqués. Gradually, the staple black faded into a deep a purple, and Toi’s second, more formal look, introduced itself to the crowd. [click any photo below to launch photo gallery].
Relaxed blazers and cardigans transformed into seductive violets and lilac gowns—capturing Zang Toi’s visualization of a prosperous, French garden. One of the designers most notable and awing pieces was a spectacular aubergine, trench ball gown carefully lined with lavender silk.
Putting a glamorous twist on the “choker” trend that has made it’s way back into fashion; Toi stunned the audience with two beautifully jeweled chokers. The carefully handcrafted chokers added volume and sparkle to a simple black blazer and a gorgeously deep purple gown. The audience was enthralled. As the music swelled to a close, Zang made his way down the runway with his final look bringing the audience out of a dream-like Parisian state of mind.
Overall, Zang Toi’s Spring 2017 runway collection embodied and captured the seductive innocence of a burgeoning French garden in the calm of spring. Zang Toi’s new spring 2017 collection has a continual theme of floral aborigines and greens that embody the fading of a Parisian day into a Shakespearean night. Needless to say, Toi’s spring 2017 collection is composed of more than beautiful garments, but of wearable and classic pieces as well.
