your SOFTEST SKIN after the sunshine
From the editor: If you’re anything like me trying to catch as many minutes of what’s left of summer, your skin can probably use an extra dose of R & R – even if you’re on VACA. An though it feels like we’re bathing in moisturizer wearing sunscreen + oils while at the pool or beach, the truth is – the sunshine, sea breeze, and chlorine from the pool do in dry out your skin even more.
Keeping a summer friendly minimal regime, I’ve been using Nubian natural body products to stay moisturized to keep up with all the sun and beach days. Instead of adding more products to my everyday routine, I just amped up the shower / after shower formula to be richer. Less products, more moisturizing products with ingredients like Black Seed Oil, Buriti Oil, Haitian Vetiver, Tamanu Oil, Mango Butter, Raw Shea Butter, Frankincense, Papaya Extract, Myrrh, Neem Oil, and Chai Tea.
Here’s my 3-step for post sun daze glorious skin!
- Indian hemp & haitian vetiver bath & body scrub with Neem Oil* is an ultra-moisturizing sugar scrub with Shea Butter, and Indian Hemp Vetiver – which is known as the “oil of tranquility”. I use it specifically on my dry skin patches daily on my body, elbows, heels and hands in the shower, and do an all over body scrub about 1x a week. Hydrating and exfoliating immediately, your skin feels smoother even before you add the moisturizer after shower.
- Every day I use the Olive Oil & Green Tea Body Wash in the shower. This gentle cleanser targets dry + dehydrated skin. Infused with a blend of botanical oils, this formula leaves skin feeling clean and moisturized. I’ve forgotten to moisturize afterwards and still found my skin reasonably OK if I was indoors (instead of the usual dry skin itch).
- Another fave product is the patchouli & buriti bath oil which I tend to use liberally all over the body like a lotion – especially in the summer. The divine scent is a mood enhancer, and once the oil soaks in, your skin is super soft and touchable with a smooth surface.
These products are natural and target wellness, and the nice bonus for me was 0 irritation, and 100% soothing for my dry skin (psoriasis) on the elbows. You can find some items in NYC at Health and Harmony in the West Village at 470 Hudson St. (212) 691-3036, some Whole Foods stores – or the entire range online at Nubian. (most under $20).
*Neem Oil forms the foundation of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian practice of natural health. Documented for 4,000 years in Sanskrit, among Neem Oil’s many benefits is the ability to hydrate and moisturize skin.
