We’re always on the lookout for the next hot spot whether it be for fashion, fun, or food. We recently discovered a cool yet intimate cocktail lounge bar, the Handy Bar in SoHo. A space that will leave you feeling swanky as ever with its prohibition era aesthetic and live jazzy music which you can enjoy while sipping a uniquely crafted cocktail. Upstairs, the space serves up a farmhouse vibe at Chalk Point Kitchen helmed by Michelin Star Chef Joe Isidori.
Owner | Restaurateur Matt Levine, known for past successes such as Sons of Essex and The Eldridge, opened the (very handy) space recently at 527 Broome. Chalk Point Kitchen serves a delicious and unique farm-to-table menu, truly util
izing all local fresh ingredients from New York.
Our editor Brigitte recently checked out the two spots and gravitated toward the downstairs lounge. It boasts a dim-lit cozy vibe with couches, chess boards, and loads of pics on the walls with celebs, art, and models including Karlie Kloss. Everything in this trendy neighborhood bar is aesthetically pleasing, even the staff! From our new favorite (strawberry) inked resident mixologist Albert Depompeis stirring up cocktail tastings with firewater bitters and fresh press fruits, to the friendly girls in fringed dresses, the atmosphere in nothing short of fabulously warm. Filled with curated antiques on the wall, vintage china, antique lighting, the one-of-kind details complete this sexy farmhouse chic meets exclusive lounge designed by Chien Dao.
Once downstairs, our gluten free vegetarian editor caught up with general manager Georges Florus who orchestrated some tasting from the upstairs. A very surprising favorite was the roasted heirloom carrots dish with feta, black truffle & lemon- absolutely mouth watering, especially for a non cooked-carrot picky kind of girl Brigitte is.
Aside from the fantastic food upstairs, the Handy Liquor Bar has a homey yet rich neighborhood bar atmosphere, with a knack for making cocktail hour special again- especially for the hip locals. The bar staff are additionally a fashionable pleasure for the eyes indeed.
A definite neighborhood go-to! tucked in a little nook in the quiet area of SoHo, the HandyBar + Chalkpoint is good food, good vibe, good times spot. Keeping it exclusive, Later in the evening, a password is needed to get down to the toasty jazz spot, but have no fear, diners upstairs get the password and the “in”.
