Siki Im Menswear Spring 2014
When attending a show in a gritty indoor parking not, it’s hard to tell what to really expect. But as soon as we arrived, we knew we were in for a great treat. Siki Im‘s Spring 2014 menswear collection was one part classic menswear silhouettes and one part uniform-inspired basics. Put the two together and you have this uniquely fantastic line, one that’s generated quite the buzz since NYFW, might we add!
Before we took our seats, we had the lovely pleasure of saying ‘Hi’ to some of our favorite models: Ben Allen, Yuri Pleskun, Clement Chabernaud, Ian Sharp and many more lovelies ‘backstage.’ Always a delight to chat with the boys!
This designer’s fascination with prison garb and hospital scrubs is shown everywhere in stark whites and the rich blacks. In fact Siki said he was inspired by a Russian-prison documentary to come up these looks. Some of the subtle prints were based off of prison tattoos on shirts, boxers and blazers. Love it. Things all flow on these guys beautifully, as every piece has an easy-to-wear feel and cut. Wide-leg trousers feel very Japanese while crew-neck tops give the looks their uniform feel. Can’t forget about the shower shoes, too! An absolute essential for this type of vibe. Even small towels adorned the tops of heads…giving men’s hats a run for their money!
At last we reached the finale, which gave us the biggest surprise of the show. The guys lined up and sported silcone-nylon tunics, resembling plastic wrap in clear and pink variations. Sterile, yes, but still very sexy. That end alone had everyone talking for days, even Jimmy Kimmel took a spin on it with Lie Witness News! No laughing matter, this was a step away from the clean-cut menswear shows as of late. We say more please! fdmLOVES SIKI IM Menswear spring 2014 selects by Brigitte Segura, written by Allison Ripa.
