PUBLIC SCHOOL SPRING 2013 menswear
Bam! Another knock out for Public School! unleashing a understated impactful mini collection for Spring 2013 with major nifty rebellious gusto! I was captivated in a “New York State Of Mind” with a collection that roared the concrete inner-city streets of NYC. Toughening up the sleek school boy persona, the collection showcased edgy detailed sharp motorcycle leather vests in basic staple hues of black and broken white, becoming an immediate FDM fave.
Hip, modern, and structured garments conceptualized in clean lineared shapes, delicate tailoring, and rebellious undertones are one of the many key components of what’s making Public School become a staple fixture in the menswear fashion scene. Over-sized light weight shirts, double-layered tees, and tailored double-breasted tuxedo jackets styled in 3-quarter fitted or crop slacks and skinny jeans – setting the bar of the New American Man- and maybe even a Frenchie, like our NYFW crush willy cartier, who was sporting black and white to go with the fab grey.
Being the new kids on the block, design duo Maxwell Osbourne and Dao-Yi Chow are proving in a short amount of time they can stitch their way up to the top with the heavy weights. The partners were very conscious about maintaining the roots of NYC in there latest collection, “We are all from New York. Me and my partner are from New York, raised in New York; the brand itself really has a New York aesthetic and that’s what we try to keep through and through. It’s actually a necessity for us. You know, people ask, Oh you guys should do a show overseas- and it just wouldn’t make sense. New York has been our home, and that’s not gonna change,” Maxwell shared with FashionDailyMag at the presentation held at Milk Studios. Black (being the basic NY uniform) aligned with minimal muted tonal tone hues, concoct an effortless interchangeable collection – allowing the Public School consumer to create interesting silhouettes in modest color schemes still feeling in touch with his masculinity. Editorial worthy with heavy mass appeal screeches longevity! Public School is The NEW New York. Written by Anthony Pedraza, fdm selects by brigitte segura.
