Prada Spring 2014 Menswear and a few girls
Always tongue in cheek, the Prada crew takes a vacation, yet Miuccia focuses on the darker side of paradise. Foliage and bright hawaiian shirts are taken out of traditional territory for Prada spring 2014 menswear, and instead much more somber. The menswear is strict, with inserts of womenswear bringing the sass with their swinging skirts and dresses. Katharine Hepburn lookalikes give that 1940’s essence, while the deeper hues supply that Prada edge that we know well, and the girls accessorized the boys just fine.
Beachgoers and sunsets are splattered across tops and button downs to help tell the tale. Disheveled in a dapper way, the Prada man will confidently conquer no matter his location.
The structured pieces add the severity that Prada aspires, while also harkening back to the 1940’s era. Instead of pairing the happy hawaiian shirts with mostly shorts, Prada opts for tailored trousers and suit jackets. A much more square and fuller silhouette than other collections this season, the brand offers layers upon layers of floral prints to increase the shape. A short sleeved sweater with Oasis imagery over a long sleeved top in contrasting flower patterns suggests that this man is on the move, and ready to escape this Menacing Paradise.
Prada contains most of the prints on top, while providing a darker palette on bottom balance the looks. For outerwear, the double breasted coats and blousons in silk are mostly in deeper tones like burgundy and black, while pops of print are available on briefcases and bags. The color carries down even to the footwear, as the bold rubber tennis shoes offer some function for guys and gals.
