New Aesthetics: Non-Invasive ways to beautify with Injectors!  In a quest for finding new anti-aging treatments that work,  I recently had a chat with Akis Ntonos (a.k.a. facial architect) and Injectable Specialist at Aion Aesthetics, NYC, (Top Aesthetic Injector 2022 by Aesthetic Everything). Here’s what AKIS had to say about up-to-date latest methods and approaches, and what to look for when choosing someone to enhance your beauty!

Though Botox and filler  is not a new topic as cosmetic enhancement for most of us,  the idea of going to an “Injector” instead of a dermatologist is new! Why try it? Because they are more up to date with the latest and greatest, especially when it comes to more for less – that is more beauty with less invasion.  Injectors are known to be more artistic – and are interested in beautifying, not filling a medical need.

Brigitte Segura | FashionDailyMag: What is the advantage or let’s say a few advantages of going to an Aesthetician vs. Plastics vs. Dermo. Is there a particular category for “Injectors”?

AKIS Ntonos | Aion Aesthetics: They all serve different purposes. An Aesthetician can provide great treatments for the skin but are not licensed to perform injectables or medical services. There is not an official “specialty” in medicine that trains you on how to be a great injector. An “Injector” is not an official title in medicine. Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, Physician Assistants and Registered Nurses are all licensed to provide these services in the state of New York. Injectors have medical training and are specialized in aesthetic medicine with experience and training. Aestheticians are licensed to perform non- medical beauty.

Brigitte Segura: Is there a significant price difference if one goes to an Injector vs. a Physician?

AKIS Ntonos:  Typically,  the experience, training and continuing education of the person providing the service can determine the price.  When someone comes to see me at Aion, for example – they come for my approach, my expertise, education and artistry, not a better cost of the filler or neuromodulator (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin etc.)

It’s always surprising to me that people will invest in a luxury hand bag for example, and never consider asking for a discount, but they will try to find the best “deal” when it comes to injecting their face. This is definitely an area you don’t want to shop for the best discount or the best deal possible!  Good providers typically cost more,  so select them cautiously. They should have put extensive training and hours into perfecting their craft in order to provide the best care possible for you.

The best injectors in the industry additionally have a few things in common. They have trained next to the best in the industry, they continue learning: they stay up-to-date with the latest methods and approaches, and they are able to adapt easily. What is important for a client to look into is the credentialing of the person who provides the service, their training, education, techniques, results and approaches.

Brigitte Segura: BTW, is the injectable service actually exactly the same, or is it a higher dose at a doc?

AKIS Ntonos: Same! Nurse Practitioners, like myself, are fully licensed as independent providers in the State of New York with full practice authority.  When it comes to dosing a treatment, especially in aesthetic medicine, a physician cannot offer a higher dose than a Nurse Practitioner and vice versa.  We both have the ability to use our judgment and critical thinking in order to provide the best possible care.

Brigitte Segura:  Any recent trends | updates aside from Botox and Fillers that men and women should consider today with injectables? What’s better than Bo nowadays that was not available a few years ago, or something that is effective in injectables that can save one from going to the plastics that is now available and you do?

AKIS Ntonos: The industry changes fast and new treatments are always available. Fillers and neuromodulatos (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin etc.) have been around for a while but they keep evolving, and we get more advanced  Hyaluronic acid fillers every few years.  We have all heard of silicone injections back in the day (not approved as a filler treatment today) and have seen what it looked like.  The newer fillers are better, Of course, more and more non-invasive treatments become available and allow for better outcomes. Some very interesting non- invasive treatments! here are a few to think about.

PRF! (Platelet Rich fibrin) which is a more efficacious treatment of what most people know as PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). We cater to a large amount of men that look for natural results and mainly prevention. We use it more often for hair restoration, or hair loss prevention.

Additionally, PRF can be used for undereye/Tear Trough injections order to improve fine lines, dark circles and help with hollowness. It is a great treatment for naturally stimulating collagen anywhere in the face including the lips.

It is important that a medical grade centrifuge is being used for this treatment in order to extract the desirable amount of platelets and growth factors for the treatment. This is greatly combined with microneewlign and can improve scaring, skin texture, minimize pores and fine lines.

Brigitte Segura: Any other treatments we should know about now?

AKIS Ntonos: There are more treatments that are exciting as well that we work with, including PDO (Polydioxanone) threads, and Stem cells have been the talk of the town too lately for more youthful appearance before going to surgery!

Brigitte Segura: That sounds very interesting for the future of aesthetics! .

Brigitte Segura: How does one know if they should / should not do a treatment?

Trust is vital in our industry. It is important that if we trust our face to someone we also trust their recommendations and approaches. When I recommend treatments to my patients it is because I think they can really benefit from them, but at the same time we discuss it with one other to make sure we have a common goal.  At times, I suggest treatments to clients that they may be skeptical about at first, but they are typically the clients that end up thrilled with the results. This is because they trust me and allow me to guide them on the journey they choose!
