Oh Maria! Though the idea of Guatemalan bags for summer gives me an instant visual of bohemian, these handbags are far from that. Designer Alida Boer wanted to expand on her philanthropic work with women in her native Guatemala, and launched a luxury handbag collection using the rich heritage of handcrafted textile- with a sophisticated twist.
Not your ordinary BOHO bag! Alida Boer‘s new multicolor floral embroidered bags are fabulously cheery. Here are some favorites:
The former Miss Guatemala wanted to flaunt the native work while giving back to the community. While fulfilling her pageant duties, Alida was gifted with the native huipil fabric, which became the core fabrication in her chic handbag collection, MARIA’s bags | Alida Boer .
Alida additionally set up a training with experienced professional designers to teach the art of sewing, embroidery and design to a small group of women in the remote town of Pastores in Sacatepequez, Guatemala to help produce these stunning multicolor + fashionable bags. Each bag combines the cultural significance of the fabric with the personal stories of the women who make the bag… yielding an artfully beautiful piece that stands out from the crowd.
Inspired by the handwork and the idea of giving back, A portion of the income from Alida Boer | MARIA BAGS also goes to a school in Guatemala to provide children with free education and meals. Look good, feel good, in multicolor.
