ISABEL MARANT spring 2014 PFW
Isabel Marant’s signature rock and roll aesthetic was key in the designer’s spring 2014 offering – think Gwen Stefani on the red carpet at the Grammys. The show’s casual, cool, bohemian vibe was channelled through the onslaught of ruffles and frayed denim, with a good measure leather and lace tossed in to top up the romance factor.
Striking black, boyfriend-style blazers with tailored shoulders were teamed with sweet, ruffled miniskirts, with strappy v-neck dresses keeping in check with the collection’s relaxed, flirtatious tone. Peppered throughout the show were loose-fitting, peasant blouses and baby doll tops, paired with neutral shorts and tapered pants in black and petrol blue.
The models donned bow-topped sandals and moccasin booties – perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon brunch with your posse in LA. Also added to the mix were a string of tomboy jeans in frayed lattice patterns and leather. If you ever needed motivation to hit the gym this winter Isabel Marant’s runway show was it… lingerie-like bra tops revealed rock-hard abs, which the designer paired with micro shorts and embroidered blazers. A standout was a one-shoulder black ruffle cocktail dress, which helped take the collection’s range of free-flowing, pinafore-style dresses and tops from day to night.
Cage sequin jackets and cuffed shorts appeared as if designed for an all-night beach party on an exotic island in the Caribbean, with staple separates such as skin-bearing hemlines, clinging dresses, and distressed denim providing an ounce of contemporary cool. fdmLOVES ISABEL MARANT spring 2014 selects by Brigitte, written by Khia Mercer.
