Guillaume Nery: Mastering the Sea and Style

French Freediving Champ Mr. Guillaume Nery is definitely a catch in Mr. Porter. Senior Copyrighter Chris Elvidge caught up with Nery in new issue, as he discussed everything from family to filming his dives. Whether holding his breath for 7 minutes and 42 seconds, or descending 123m below the watery surface, Nery’s feats have taken the world by storm. Photographer Arnaud Pyvka captured Nery in his natural element, by showing off crisp summer looks styled by Dan May next to the Cannes watery paradise (palm trees and all).

Although Nery didn’t jump into the waves, he still took our breath away…  You too can come along for one of Nery’s freedives, as his film Free Fall (over 13.6 million views on youtube) takes you into the dark depths of a 200m Bahamas’s sinkhole. “We’re trying to show people the beauty of the elements, of the water; the poetry, and not just the performance,” Nery states in Mr. Porter. Since his wife, free diver Julie Gautier, filmed the flick while also holding her breath, Nery shows how his awe-inspiring adventures are all in the family.

Although, if you’re only looking to take some risks in your closet, by adding printed shorts and a see-thru cardigan will definitely enliven sunken fashion basics. Nery looked easygoing in the editorial, as his carefree locks made it appear as if he’d just stepped off the shore and into the showstopping looks. Guys, the hotter temps also mean looking cool in classic ways, so take note of the white Borsalino hat and rimmed Cutler & Gross shades that the swimmer sports. For those breezy nights by the shore, slide into a comfy cardigan, such as the darkly hued Michael Bastian piece. And who knows ? Maybe you could share it with a lucky lady.  Written by Mary Anderson.
