GEORGINE ss16 NYFW
Vibrant, youthful, and fueled by flower power, Georgine‘s s16 collection #NYFW brought a sixties style optimism to the spring runway. Futuristic color combinations, floral prints, and luxe sequined fabrics made for a memorable and exciting collection.
Focusing on defying traditional construction, the collection showcased an eclectic mix of colors, materials and prints. Most notable was the designer’s unexpected use of texture. Rather than traditional embroidery, the collection employed thin leather cut outs in the shapes of pastel floral details. A head to toe denim look was actually styled from silk and chiffon, while a lace look was constructed to look like a sweatshirt.
Blocks of color in unconventional combinations gave a nod to 60s retro-futurism. Make up employed the same colorful approach, makeup artist Gordon Espinet for MAC Pro crafted a glam, David Bowie inspired eye look.
Models wore their hair in slick ladylike buns, a stripe of color running through the middle. Sunglasses from Moscot and PVC sandals by Melissa came in a full spectrum of shades.
The crowd was equally as vibrant as the collection– A-listers such as Laverne Cox, Nigel Barker, Gia Genevieve, and Dianne Brill lined the front row to show their support for the up and coming designer. After seasons of pared down paillettes, Georgine’s more-is-more approach is a welcome breath of fresh air.
