EMERGING designers: CALVIN LUO at the WHITNEY
A modern skater girl is whimsical in CALVIN LUO‘s romantic yet edgy collection for spring 2018. Held at the Whitney in the meatpacking during NYFW, the mysterious girl behind the modern cool facade is still sweet and rosey cheeked. The ‘frivolous and charming girl amidst all the glamour and luxe’ flaunts an I don’t care flare with an easy attitude. yay.
Luo’s inspo derivative of porcelain artist Xie Dong evokes the textural play in the spring collection, using different fabrications and treatments creating ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ textures.
Some of my favorite looks are here including the textured knits, the high rise crop jeans + ruffle top and the casual edgy layered tank look and cargos – in black and white of course. this looks like a me, me me collection. Love it.

Designed by architect Renzo Piano, The Whitney Museum offered a minimalistic setting for Luo’s collection. The glass space overlooking the Meatpacking District and the River fused well with the multi-textural collection.
