designer Karen Harman is all about the tops
Sportswear designer Karen Harman is now beating to her own drum ! Kicking off her namesake brand for fall 2013 with a variety of tops and blouses shows how Harman is definitely supplying pieces that will refresh any woman’s closet. Her clean lines and sharp silhouettes bring a modern touch, ringing in classics twisted nouveau again. Bringing us a new love for the blouse, it’s refreshing to find an alternative to our knit top collections. “We need a new something to go with all those fabulous black pants…” Karen tells us.
Transforming her past experiences at a slew of notable brands allowed Harman to transition her technique into her own brand seamlessly. As the former VP of Design at Dana Buchman, then VP at The Talbots Collection as well as designing at Maggy London, Karen Harman tells WWD in her recent interview: “I just decided I wanted to do something more that used my talent and my taste…”
Her mix of textiles: think leathers playing nicely with lighter counterparts including silks that will stay chic beyond the boardroom. Keeping the color scheme in rich hues of oxblood , onyx and ivory gives a variety of dramatic approaches to everyday wear. The silk satin chiffon bow blouse is one of our favorites, and the sophisticated blousey friends will garner a great audience. Harman’s label is starting strong, and we are definitely ready to see more. And yes there is another bonus- reasonable price points, and all made in the US.
