BEAUTY RESOLUTIONS: get your glow on before party season
Soon it will be time to face the holiday party season! Before you think about the dress up part, how’s your face looking? With the weather transition in place already, it’s time to start thinking about more intensive skin treats to give you the GLOW in time. We’re not talking the mask at home or local spa, but we were curious about hi-tech facials again, and this time, we were looking at the HydraFacial, that got an “A” in our books.
from the editor: I decided to try something new this past September prior to NYFW shows. I thought if I SUPER-prepped my skin to better-than-usual form, perhaps it could hold back the skin irritation and dark circles I usually get by day 4 of the shows. Considering I now do a full day the unofficial Wednesday, by Saturday I am already looking a bit tired. To the rescue, I went to see Carissa McCormack at Dr. Z Paul Lorenc‘s office uptown a few days before the Spring 2015 NYFW shows early September.
After discussing the not so normal basic FW wear and tear to be anticipated, we decided to go with a HydraFacial. Using a variety of serums to exfoliate, deep clean and hydrate, Carissa discussed the treatment along the way.The “breakthrough technology that deep cleans impurities from the skin through painless extraction of blackheads and debris” was in fact what it felt like with what felt like a mini toothbrush head gently pulling on my skin. Even better, the facial exfoliates dead skin cells with crystal-free microdermabrasion, while hydrating, anti-oxidant serums to soothe + hydrate the skin. The result? somehow it plumps your skin to a smoother more even texture- and definitely, no zits. Yay!
That wasn’t all of it! We then did a small dose of Forever Young BBL treatment using Broad Band Light (BBL) and infrared light to address a few red and brown spots here and there. This treatment evened out my skin tone even more, and the added bonus is that it also helps firm!
After the treatment, we used Zo SkinHealth Ossenial daily power defense contains retinol, and specialized DNA repairing enzymes. The light serum-like texture soaks in quickly and helps minimize UV damage and uneven pigmentation, while restoring skin function and elasticity. After that, we put on my absolute favorite perfect skin primer + UV protector, the oxlipse sunscreen primer spf 30. I’ve talked about this primer before, it’s the perfect amount of coverage to work a flawless no make up face.
I continued using the products during fashion week, and by the look of some of the pics, you can see I have a natural beautiful skin glow. It lasted through most of the week, though by day 7, I definitely didn’t look as great as day 1. However, after looking at everyone else’s bumpy skin (including models and celebs), I really felt good about “the condition” of my skin, considering the wear and tear involved with the heavy make up application – and did I mention, lack of sleep?
The only down side of this and like anything else, it’s not forever, and no matter how much you prep, a treatment can’t be a foolproof guard against daily make up abuse combined with a “fashion week diet”. My post NYFW skin irritation did come around after all, but I was thankful it wasn’t during the highly visible days. I would definitely do this again to “prep” my skin before a big event like fashion week, a Gala, a wedding, and maybe just before the holiday so mama will be happy. Though the treatments aren’t cheap, it’s a small price to pay for a few weeks of wonderful face happiness, not to mention the bonus compliments.
