MIU MIU spring 2014 PFW
Schoolyard chic with a distinctive 60’s mod vibe was the playbook for Miu Miu’s spring 2014 offering. An adult spin on children’s classics such as baby-blue and tea-rose pink wool coats were teamed with thick white textured tights and cute Mary Janes – sure to turn heads on your next nanny assignment on the Upper West Side. Inspired by the desire to create a collection centered on the clash of pretty and perverse, Miuccia Prada’s latest lineup appeala to feminine women with a rebellious streak.
The show played out like an Alice in Wonderland adventure topped up with a fairy tale twist, through skirts laced with gingerbread trim, princess dresses, and sparkly beaded skirts with fringed details and organza ruffled twin sets. Set in the city’s Palais d’Iéna, the looks featured patterns set fit for wallpaper in a children’s room, with coats adorned with pussycat print, goldfish, and cockatoos flying over Deco shapes.
Giving the offering a grown-up vibe catering to life outside detention were slinky beaded Moulin Rouge Charleston slipdresses with glitzy sequin designs, and pretty puff-ball strapless party dresses with enough ruching to cause voluminous damage on the dance floor next prom.
Animal motifs were key on the collection’s standout coats, which came in a range of single-breasted swinging styles and featured oversized buttons. The wearable range is sure to be snapped up by the label’s devoted fans, which include front row celebrities Lena Dunham, Rashida Jones, and Dianna Argon. The designer reflected her focus on the perverse through the lineup’s eccentric color palette, which clashed aqua coats with pale blue stockings and emerald green tights with canary yellow shoes. fdmLOVES MIU MIU spring 2014 selects by Brigitte, written by Khia Mercer.
