MAISON MARGIELA couture new Artisanal day
OOh all the buzz is on ‘Artisanal’ Collection from Maison Martin Margiela ss15 couture. First of all, they showed during the London Collections for men, which was already interesting; secondly, it marked the return of Galliano who debuted the couture collection for the house; and most importantly, the collection was awesome, with alot of AWE indeed. Reminding us of what was so great about the designer in the first place. The collection was a powerful + fierce yet a bit demure, even a bit less blinged out than recent collections with a few notable JG hints.
Mostly, the stripped down and reborn mix of fabrics and materials combined with the designer’s unexpected melange gave us something new to (and positive) to talk about. From facelike appliques made of lacquered shells reminiscent of Arcimboldo style figures to John Galliano’s creative interpretations of the couture aesthetic, there’s a lot to view here. Although the decision to show smack in (the not-even) the middle of the mens collections was a bit random, it was actually refreshing to look at a high level of womenswear design than mens and streetwear… even for just one show.
“A process of discovery, returning to one’s roots. Piece by piece, deconstructing and constructing a new story for Margiela. A deep commitment to the extraordinary possibilities of the Maison’s Atelier and the art of Haute Couture. Approaching tailoring, techniques, craftsmanship like a new explorer, or painter. One who sees beauty in things that are often taken for granted, giving everything a newly enriched life.” – MMM ‘Artisanal’
It all seems fitting, even th pearls that bring teardrops of memories to the face! Pat McGrath shows her rockstar capacity as always with the gold, the pearls, and the sequins for beauty and makeup, as Eugene Souleiman’s hair mastery is no less fabulous. An elusive, rare and strange new beauty of muses nonchalantly arousing senses.
“A world deep in its past but with promises of the future. New direction given with play on proportion and sartorial rules. Languid, sweeping. Precise tailoring…Eyes wide open in wonderment to a veritable Cabinet de Curiosités. Here’s a quick view of the amazing details, with more to come!
