48 hour Hamptons Getaway

I was longing for some ocean air. Though the weather was on the foggy side lately, I suggested to my sweetie that we head to Southampton, NY, for a 48-hour Hamptons Mini Getaway. The lux beach town popular with Manhattanites sounded like the perfect midweek escape. I hoped we would enjoy the luxe without the hubbub. Spoiler alert: we did!
48 hour Hamptons Getaway: SOUTHAMPTON NY

Where we stayed. Southampton Inn: A charming and practical place to stay for our Hamptons mini vacay. We did not want the hassle or responsibility of using a car while out there and found the Inn made that possible. Just off the edge of Southampton’s low key commercial stretch, the Southampton Inn has its own private grounds including tennis courts, a swimming pool, and Claude’s, a full-service restaurant. Southampton Inn: 91 Hill St, Southampton, NY 11968.
Flowering plants aplenty gave me joy! The rooms were clean, with deep closets and enough space for a city girl who overpacked (guilty as charged!) to lay out all of her things in an orderly way. Yay! Nice touches and more or less individual entrances created a sense of privacy. Friendly and helpful staff in attendance!
Main Prospect. After the two hour trip out and check- in, it was time for a drink. We headed to the nearby Main Prospect (5 min Uber). The place looks like it gets hopping at night, but also fun for a late afternoon drink and relax in their outdoor grassy area too. Indoors has a bar loungy feel that seems like a good fit for their varied programming, ranging from standup to dinner with jazz. Check out their schedule! Drinks were very good and well did the trick! Main Prospect: 15 W Prospect St, Southampton, NY 11968 .
Agawam Park. Southampton Fine Arts Show. We went for a pre dinner stroll around Agawam Park (within 5 minute walk of our stay) and took in Angus Macaulay’s Southampton Fine Arts show which happened to be going on. Saw some neat art of varied types in the park and enjoyed the setting generally. We had fun taking pics there too. There is going to be a second, larger, session of this Southampton Fine Arts Show on August 25-27.
Dinner: Centro. After a quick change at the Inn, the dinner hour was upon us so we headed for some cozy Italian food at Centro, a few minutes uber ride away. (Ubers were easy to get.) Good looking food in large portions and the best for me was a great looking GLUTEN FREE pizza with a crust that was still tasty the next day (of course I save the Pizza). Honey had some goodlookin’ eggplant parmigiana with leftovers to spare. Centro Trattoria & Bar: 3525 336 W Montauk Hwy, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
The next day we had coffee early and wandered around the rainy town. Stopped off for some personal care at our favorite massage place and on rubbery legs headed over to another Hamptons art show.
The unique and new Artacom show is curated by Visionary Artist and Photographer Roger Sichel. Fun and inspiring art, with a touch of romance (see below!). It runs all summer. Artists include Roger Sichel’s work alongside friends and artists Patrick McMullan, Inson Wood, Ray Gross, Don Hershman, John Melillo, Peter Max, Stas Rutkowski, Maxi, Julie O’Brien, Leila Pinto, Cannon Hersey, John Hersey, Howard Kanovitz, Jaxi, Gabe Aiello, DJ Leon, Pamela Lubell and Daria Deshuk. Artacom Southampton Southampton Cultural Center, 25 Pond Lane, Southampton, NY 11968.
Claude’s. Dinner. Luckily for guests like us, being rained in wasn’t so bad, with Claude‘s Restaurant on at the Southampton Inn on site with a full service restaurant. Charming staff and a fine American menu – and very good! The outdoor area of the restaurant is especially beautiful though that particular detail was one the weather did not cooperate with us on. Strings of lights over seating among the plants and flowers create a sweet atmosphere. We’re looking forward to more summer evenings there.
If you are in the mood for a couple of days of peace and fresh air near NYC and have the flexibility, be a maverick and consider a midweek 48-hour Hamptons Mini Getaway (trademark pending). You can get the joy of the place without the “be in the scene” extra.
More coming soon from the Hamptons and some of our other other travels.
