Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Spring 2014 PFW

Care for some medieval inspiration? For Vivienne Westwood’s Gold Label Spring 2014 collection, she took a trek to old Canterbury, a place where ‘The Bard’ comes to mind. We’re talking all things Shakespeare. Titling the set ‘Everything is connected,’ it’s also another take on climate change (notice the ‘dirt’ on the girls?), something that’s been a source of much inspiration for the designer.

So where’s this old-time influence? She’s fascinated by the way people lived during the Middle Ages, especially their religious practices. All of this morphed into one great line of clothing, done in the always-clever Westwood way.

Knits are very promeinet here, along with gorgeous floral skits with cute accented tulle. In fact, there’s lots of tulle to be had in this set. It’s fun, it’s girly and it fits so perfectly among this assortment. With hair piled on top of their heads, these models are fiercely rocking everything from crazy patterns to cane accessories. One’s sporting a bow and arrow, looking like Katniss Everdeen on the wild side. Several dresses have true 1600s silhouettes, but they’re still given that modern edge that epitomizes this line. There’s even a cat print placed on a shoulder-baring top. The paired floral skirt is seen on an earlier dress with elevated boots to die for.  It’s all kitschy fabulous and it’s all Westwood. She’s one-of-a-kind.

This designer always gives her females strong attitudes that show clearly on the clothing. The whimsically flowing evening gowns also score high notes here. There’s just something so lovely about a dress with a short jacket. Another incredibly fun and memorable set.
