LITTLE KIDS ROCK benefit honors Joan Jett

catching up: For the love of music, Citizen sponsored the LITTLE KIDS ROCK gala benefit honoring Joan Jett as “Rocker of the Year” on Oct 23, 2014 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Hosted by The Sopranos’ Vincent Pastore and radio host Rich Russo, Jett’s impact in the charity’s ‘Modern Band’ music program was highlighted. The night full of rock and rollers of all ages included performances by Alice Cooper, Darlene Love, Cheap trick, and Little Rock students from local schools.

Little Kids Rock is the nation’s leading nonprofit provider of free musical instruments to public schools.   The “Modern Band” curriculum teaches kids to perform, improvise and compose music genres that they already know and love including rock, pop, hip-hop, country reggae and R&B.  Making learning music fun and fostering the skills needed to think creatively, LKR helps kids have more confidence, and connect with others—skills that help kids establish rich, purposeful lives. Additionally, High school music students hold higher GPAs than non-musicians in their schools, which is awesome step in their college future.

This  event was made possible thanks to Citizen sponsorship and  donation of Limited Edition Citizen Sunrise watches for the auction in support of Little Kids Rock.  The Citizen L Sunrise  hand crafted timepieces are created with precious stones and hand painted dials representing five different countries; United States, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom and Canada. Each country’s models take inspiration from nature and showcases that on the intricate dials; daisy – United States, cherry blossom – Japan, dahlia – Mexico, rose – United Kingdom, maple leaf – Canada.

Here’s a look at the performances we got to see last night,  paying homage to Jett’s music and a little sneak peak from the event.
