fancy a DIPTYQUE oriental holiday

In a life that is far from ordinary, cold winter months should romance the flames of extraordinary candles. Long before the birth of the fanciful scents and  festive candle designs from Diptyque, a visionary space [at 34 Boulevard Saint Germain] was brought to life by Christiane Gautrot, Desmond Knox-Leet and Yves Coueslant. Having met in art school and sharing a great passion for interior design, they created magnificent furnishing fabrics in the early ‘60s.

In search of new inspiration and unique pieces, their travels led them to the resplendent Kilim rugs. Hand-embroidered by nomadic artisans, Kilims are geometric wonders, instantly recognizable by perfectly arranged triangles and diamonds. Drawing inspiration from these majestic rugs, Diptyque candles has created three unique designs for Winter 2012: Sapin Doré, Oud Ambré and Oliban.

From a traditional symbol of Christmas, to exotic Arabian nights, each piece was designed with great purpose to create a very special holiday ambiance. Interweaving triangles and diamonds to resemble the Oriental rug, these stunning pieces include rich colors of gold, emerald, peridot and ruby, along with a range of blues inspired by a night under the stars. The unique beauty of each candle is greatly elevated when lit, as the flames bring to life great stories, perhaps even to far-off lands…Written by Jessica A. Harmon.
