BURBERRY PRORSUM aw 13 womenswear | trench kisses

Burberry Autumn Winter 2013 interjected happiness into their haute looks. Creative Director Christopher Bailey, who season after season fearlessly approaches new ways to reinvent the classic trench, this time formed a happy medium between traditional textiles and powerhouse prints in the “Trench Kisses” collection. Simply see the way he took animal prints, sleek cashmere and calfskin, stripes, and also hearts, and made them look like an everyday occurrence (don’t we wish!).

London’s Hyde Park held a staggering 1500+ guests at the specially-made Burberry venue with attendees such as Les Miserables director Tom Hooper, actors Kate Beckinsale, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Freida Pinto, Vicki Zhao, Melanie Laurent, Michelle Dockery, Gabriella Wilde, Alinne Moraes, Alice Braga, Olivia Palermo, Douglas Booth, Harry Treadaway, Joe Dempsie and Callum Turner. Musicians Rita Ora, Tinie Tempah, Jake Bugg, Dan Gillespie- Sells, George Craig, Harley Viera-Newton, Nil Karaibrahimgil , Misty Miller, and 2012 Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton. Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn, Karlie Kloss, Liu Wen, and Charlotte Wiggins, sauntered down the runway to the enticing live piano performance by Burberry Acoustic artist and 2013 Critics’ Choice BRIT Award winner Tom Odell, along with tracks from Paloma Faith and Misty Miller. Opening the opportunity to express your personal style (literally), this season begins the brand’s Runway Made to Order- meaning you can get these desired pieces personalized with a timeless nameplate as well.

Mixing the Brit attitude of Christine Keeler with the iconic Burberry looks resulted in a successful formula for Bailey, since he inserted a liveliness to the darker fall season. Guys got into the fun too, as a heart print button-down interjected lightness. Bailey slowly guided us into the hot hues, by first starting with subtle translucent tans that were broken up with hearts underneath the see-through pencil skirts for girls and tailored trousers for guys. But guys didn’t get all the merriment, as an animal print jacket and a gold trench let the gals combine their inner wild child with the city-chic. Never forgetting functionality, the oxblood glossy jacket will be a fresh closet staple for many, while the the animal print- sleeved trench coats will be swinging on the streets across London for all you showstoppers.

Bailey did not stray away from the streamlined silhouette-instead demonstrating how to thrive in it. He grabbed the audience’s attention through the abundance of contrasting fabrics: Think radiant fabrics against the richness of the muted textures (and hey, they’d look great on a cloudy day). Pencil skirts were revamped in everything from riveted leather to cheetah print to ravishing, and revealing, ruby red. The enormous eyelets on the bottom of a trench coat harkened back to hardware, while adding inner strength to next season’s woman.

Cinching on the waist subtly suggested the past peplum silhouette trend, but this brand is rooted in tradition, making the shape a mainstay-not a momentary interlude. Cocktail hour will be the shining hour for many women come fall, thanks to the a black column dress becoming modernized with metal straps-giving a sexy side to the structure. And even if you’re not ready to rock the rivet covered coats and tops on a day-to-day basis, the jumbo clutches and handbags sporting the embellishments will surely be an eye-catcher.
