CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

Yohji Yamamoto Menswear spring 2014

Things were a little dark as usual Yohji Yamamoto‘s Menswear spring 2014 collection. For our typical viewing pleasure, model Willy Cartier walked a couple of layered looks with brushes of warrior-like make-up for an added dark intrigue. Though there were small bouts of color that appeared, the baggy, flowy pieces and loads of layers were directly inspired by nomads and their wandering excursions. Multiple jackets, sweaters and pants are layered, with bottom layers hanging very low.

It’s “take one off, leave one on” kind of chic…mysterious edge.

Yamamoto hints at kung-fu with distinctive jackets and long silhouettes. Many outfits appear wet, thanks to washed silk and surface treatment techniques. It’s like he’s showing here that getting stuck in that thunderstorm is a fashion statement. These guys weren’t completely covered either. Some were showing bits and pieces of skin that represent an obvious allure. Nomads can be sexy, right? The bits of color are in sunset hues of yellow, orange, violet and blue. We can’t help but feel they might represent the passage of time, especially since a collared shirt has a clock face plastered on the front. With the added “dust” effect on the foreheads of the models, he might very well be channeling the past, present and future.

Many pants are baggy while others are cropped and cuffed at the leg. Shirts and jackets are long and left in black, gray and beige shades. The remaining off-white pieces are cool from head to toe. The tailoring here is simply Yamamoto. Always giving us something to buzz about, this designer is never off the mark. fdmLOVES YOHJI YAMAMOTO Menswear spring 2014 selects by Brigitte Segura, written by Allison Ripa.
