CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

Walter Van Beirendonck Menswear spring 2014

Walter Van Beirendonck is known to have strong themes in all of his collections. His Menswear spring 2014 set is no exception. Titled “Home Sweet Home,” this particular line is based off the Antwerp home he shares with his partner. And when we mean it’s based off home, it literally resembles the inside of his house. Carpet-printed silk pants and tops with flower vases adorn the looks. Milliner Stephen Jones provided the headwear that’s one-of-a-kind. It’s kitchy meets imaginative, never boring.

This is one of the most memorable menswear collections so far. Care for a visit? Color blocking and mixed print suits are wild. One in particular shows a vase of yellow flowers delicately placed on a wooden table. The triangle-print shorts look like the wallpaper these flowers would be in front of. The same print is embellished on another blazer, this time embroidered to create a dazzling 3D effect. The flowers look like they can be taken from the model’s breast pocket. A navy and white ensemble reached a level of ferocity with snakeskin gloves that spanned up the arms…like a high-class plumber ready for work. Things still remain avant-garde throughout with elongated coats and large boxy shoulders. It’s 1980s silhouettes with 21st century modernity.

Every piece is like visiting the designer’s home without stepping through the door. High socks are printed with snails and birds and the long bills on raffia caps are attention-grabbing. A master of menswear creations, this designer knows how to entertain his guests. fdmLOVES WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK Menswear 2014 selects by Brigitte Segura, written by Allison Ripa.
