Paris Fashion Week ss16

Bonjour mes amis! Without fail, Paris fashion week was a pure delight, exciting us to our very fashionable core. From the Fabulous Dior and Moncler Gamme Rouge floral sets to Valentino romance to smiles on the runway at Lagerfeld’s Chanel airlines…  Here’s a quick glimpse | highlights from the ss16 PFW runway.

Proper with poise and a twist made an impressionable entrance at Dior and Moncler Gamme Rouge. Backdrops filled with flowers a plenty, the former was more of a garden party, and the latter french countryside. Moncler Gamme Rouge mixed streamlined and sport with a fencing inspired collection by  Giambattista Valli. Fitted elements at the waist like neat nips at the waist and tailored jackets kept things sharp and clean while other silhouettes soften the look. Organza and lace were lovely and light with floral details and embroidery reinforcing the dreamy side of alfresco.

An invitation to indulge in fine fabrics and embark on a global spin swept the runways. Designers Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri’s went full on tribal at Valentino. Gowns wowed, the leather craftsmanship was stunning, and the adornments stole the show. Intricate bead work, batik dyed patterns, and feather embellishments sold the exotic extension. At the Grand Palais for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld took flight and saved us a seat. A Chanel branded airport was built to showcase the fashion forward intrepid traveler. Suits gave homage to the label’s days of yore in traditional tones. Futuristic with playful graphic prints and over-sized elements layered for swagger.  Watch the Chanel fashion show video here.

We’re big fans of girl tribe power and lots of love for easy chic. Light and lovely at Chloé with sophisticated silhouettes with a fresh finesse. The brand’s creative director Waight Keller channeled some western notions with loosely ruffled layering. A stone’s throw away, but certainly on the more sporty side, easy style prevailed at Stella McCartney.  Bright colors and baggy street-wear features made use of raw fabrics and organic cotton for an ultra-cool appeal. Topped with aviators and stepping out in wooden sandals, this girl is oh so sassy. Watch the fashion show video here.

Bring on the bold, we heart intriguing treatment of tone and texture. Botanical in nature with a jungle theme at Issey Miyake. The designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae unveiled what has been dubbed “baked stretch” -a pleated formula that is used to create waves with a 3D curve. Another unique approach was using actual plant fiber for paper thin pieces like shirts and jackets. The next generation of sweet and stylish at Elie Saab. Hot topic models Lily Donaldson, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner walked the show and the full house fawned over the new “31” handbag. Feminine features in chiffon, silk, and tulle were transformed with a seventies vibe. Black and white stripes, bowed necklines, and billowy sleeves hit a nice accord, and bordered on cheeky. check out the Elie Saab show video here

Kenzo ushered in an electrically charged combination of cut and color a la Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. Making an impression with primary shades and a Japanese aesthetic, striking accord true to the label yet with a touch of with a modernism they’ve re-imagined.

An edgier side of ready to wear reveals collections that don’t hold back. Forward favorites include IRIS VAN HERPEN,  Maison Margiela by John Galliano, Anne Sofie Madsen, and Manish Arora.   For John Galliano, Bill Gaytten mashed up traditional with eclectic with a side of Brit style in ode to his own heritage. A little boy meets girl made way for unexpected combinations like Georgette and linen tweed, or lace dresses layered with plaid suit coats. And last but not least, our favorite rule breaker and statement maker this season, Rick Owens. Making headlines from the start, this season didn’t disappoint. How could it be with models hanging upside down and bound onto another model as they hit the runway. Sensationalism aside, the collection was exquisite with sculpted leather, transparent jackets, and cohesive styling.  Oh and Rick he did a Q + A right after the show too on the tumblr platform.. though he had such a huge response he didn’t get to ours :(..
