CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

Ones to Watch: NYFW designers spring 2014

On the scene with staying power, newbies with a few seasons under their belt prove there’s more to the story than the excitement of shiny wrapping. Having made quite an impression, we have watched on as they continued to develop their strengths. Revealing another piece of the puzzle as collections debut for Spring 2014.

Ultra-fierce models were set against a chain-link fence at Brian Lichtenberg. The LA-based designer has plenty of street cred as seen by the packed house for the presentation at Pier 59 Studios. In a clever mash-up of sportswear with a casual attitude to club clothes that demand attention, the modern mix hits the right spot for the fashionably hip crowd. Daring silhouettes and skintight fabrics added an erotic allure.

A refined female warrior emerged at Brandon Sun. Conversational contrasted added paired down dimension for a cohesive ready to wear line. Long and lean looks had an ethereal vibe whereas structured pieces gave way to intensity. Geo elements and printed patterns framed up the look with an inventive influence.

Understated femininity became the building blocks for style at Katie Gallagher. Cut for fitted appeal with emphasis on seaming, cling components brings sensuality to the naiveté. Sweetened with innocence and rosettes, the line charms with the less is more approach. Black looks lend to drama while pale pinks and neutral lights add a dash of whimsy.

Classy ladies with a sense of humor can appreciate the Saunder label. Designer Emily Saunder ventured into uncharted territory with an archeological dig set in contemporary city scape. A little safari and a lot of sass goes a long way. Kitschy bone prints and leopard patterns add a playful touch in styles that range from silky styles to suited silhouettes. A dreamy color palette of sand, tangerine, indigo, and sea foam brings the vignette to life.

Crisp and breezy looks transition into tight and somewhat alternative styles at Hache. Creative Director Manuela Arcari mixes feminine foundations with finesse. Pajama like lightness with shirting fabrics were refreshingly cute with ruffled hems. Peplum cuts, yoked blouses, mandarin collars, and full skirts mixed girlish magnetism with a utilitarian slant. Cinched waists belted with purpose and studded for flair, the combination of fabrics and layers created earnest intrigue.

It was a brightly colored fantasy land at Azede Jean-Pierre. A cheery interpretation of nature with a cartoon like quality was pulled off as artsy chic. Bubbly graphics in vibrant hues are impactful on clean cuts that had been shaped with attention. There was enough to panache to go around with purposeful seaming, rounded hems, and quirky insect patterned pieces.

Designer Alessandra Meskita delivers a permanent vacation. The Meskita collection was packed with stylish swimwear and fab get-ups for getting from here to there for. Tapping into the strength and beauty of the Brazilian deity Yemanja, the streamlined construction proved powerful as flowing pieces radiated. Perfect for taking you from seaside cocktails to a quick dip in the pool, the collection packs a punch.

Still basking in a glow from the getaway that inspired the collection, Christian Siriano delivered a romantic occasion for dressing. From casual hits with raffia and straw to delightful floral patterned pieces daytime looks built up nicely to unveil the evening drama. The designer has broken through the newbie barrier and into a more mature standing while building a steady following along the way.
