NICHOLAS K. spring 2013 highlights + front row
Nicholas K. unveiled another collection for spring 2013 as the official kick-off show for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Bright and early, celeb fans came out to enjoy a front row view, musicians and actors including Kyle Cook & Paul Doucette (Matchbox Twenty), members of Swedish Pop Band Icona Pop; Actors Chaske Spencer (Twilight) and India De Beaufort ( Jane by Design) who donned a Nicholas K creation, as well as model/actress Irina Pantaeva.
Nature’s palette of the future was painted with a desert-like scene. Neutrals in camel, sand, eggshell, pebble, rose, and BLUES, dusty teal and mint greens infused the romantic tones fused with outdoorsy techy touches. Organic shapes capture a unique chic that lives in an imagined tomorrow, much beyond that of referenced “Soylent Green.” Pops of lime and bittersweet orange are lush in counterbalance to solid and serious always cosmopolitan black. Edgy geometrics – pockets and seamed appliqués add shape to layers of capri-length legs, and rolled above the knee hems. Cowl necks and other softly draped tops and jackets, not to mention anoraks are layered in billowy with a breezy ease. Standout density in the form of a few chunky cream and baby blue striped and patterned sweater pieces. Otherwise texture is subtle with fabrics spanning from silk satin + cashmere to leather, and made modern with mesh.
Accessories were just enough with a sophisticated-update spinning an espadrille (Nicholas K), little miss smarty pants big-circle glasses , hoods and thin stocking caps appropriately interspersed, and scarfs – sometimes turned into loose head covers. Soft and simple hair by Nick Irwin for Catwalk by TIGI complimented fresh and natural make-up by Janell Geason for Aveda, and nails by Haven for Essie. The collection evoked a fashion fast-forward to the prospect of style evolution. NICHOLAS K SPRING/SUMMER 2013 COLLECTION. Written By Sarah A. Freiseis. Photos: Randy Brooke.
