CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

Miharayasuhiro Menswear spring 2014

Designer Mihara Yasuhiro titled his Miharayasuhiro Menswear spring 2014 collection “Phoenix,” as a symbolic representation of prayer and hope for his country’s strong spirit after the 2012 earthquake and tsunami disasters. . He creatively collaborated with artist Osamu Tezuka, gaining design inspiration from his series Hi no Tori, based on the immortal phoenix. What resulted is a powerful line filled with Sukumo indigo dye, a process that only a few manufacturers in Japan still perform. It’s a poetic visual representation of Japanese hope and tradition…a line with deep meaning that’s gorgeous.

Most of these looks are in shades of blue (a menswear trending color!), where that special Sukumo dye comes into play. Blazers that resemble denim are in fact really dyed leather. Like many designers, Yasuhiro’s incorporating these little textile techniques that end up rocking. Suits look swift in different shades and printed shirts and Bermuda shorts are summertime ready. The prints look like phoenix bird feathers, an obvious nod to his running theme. They even transcend onto shoes here. The mismatched graphics on T-shirts is a fresh take on the menswear staple piece. Guys always need a T in their closets somewhere, and these are a tad funkier than the norm.

The models have gold sparkle on their heads that shimmer like sand. It’s a cute touch that ties into the easy-breezy clothing. Classic guy looks with an added oomph of dazzle. Watch as these pieces fly fast like the phoenix bird. fdmLOVES MIHARAYASUHIRO Menswear spring 2014 selects by Brigitte Segura, written by Allison Ripa.
