CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

MARC JACOBS resort 2014

Get a new spin on effortless elegance for Marc Jacobs Resort 2014. Womenswear head designer Joseph Carter gave lingerie its chance beyond the bedroom, by pairing it with structured pieces. Nods to nautical weren’t smothered by shine, with standout stripes paired with placed shimmers of sequins.

The bling is understated, paired with slouchy trousers and cap-sleeve gowns.  This collection featured a summer spectrum of whites, oranges, blues and lavenders, yet when paired with browns, burgundy’s, and navy blues, transformed into a tasteful array of hues.  The leathers and double-face satins did not clash, complimenting each other in understated wearability. Tying it all together with seafarer influences and silhouettes (breton sailor stripes anyone ?) gave a fresh youthfulness to resort.

Underwear-as-outerwear made a comeback in this collection, but didn’t appear out of place. Case in point- a silk bra paired with a pencil skirt looked liberating for the hotter season. For evening, Jacobs covered the simple silhouettes in sequins-showing how the Jacobs girl won’t compromise a freeing silhouette for femininity. Keeping with the airy trend, translucent dresses looked ravishing in strips of shimmer- perfect for either a night on the town, or a relaxing day at a townhouse. This Resort collection continued what the designer does best in the mix, this time loungewear goes luxury, letting each girl go her own route. Commentary: Brigitte Segura, written by Mary Anderson.
