CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA couture spring 2014

Pop Americana meets Imperial Asia. The Maison Martin Margiela couture for Spring 2014  has us swooning.  Influences of art and travel in this Artisanal initiative are evident as the organdy-masked canvases glide down the runway.  Margiela’s couture collection is fusion of color with bursts of textures captivating our eyes, taking us on a journey somewhere far away.

MMM’s creative team of master craftsmen and couturiers, (called alchemists) have long surpassed the challenge of deconstructing random materials. Almost bizarrely combining them in the reconstruction,  the masters breathe new life to create an unfounded work of wearable art.   After hundreds of man hours, the Alchemists take bits and pieces of inspiration, combining textile influences taken from the private collection of Frank Lloyd Wright, scraps of Mariano Fortuny fabric, 1920s Bahaus tapestry, and silk scarves from a 1930’s brothel.

We’re loving the sequined and beaded tattoo frocks reminiscent of the works of “Sailor Jimmy” popular in 1950’s Americana.  The bricolage Nefertiti headpieces, jacket, and frocks are an instant obsession. Beads, chains, soda pulls, keys, buttons, zippers, shells, all moshed together on an easy silhouette to want want want.

The MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA couture spring 2014 collection is for the collectors and keepers of the true couture pieces of our generation. If these clothes could talk, (like red velvet ropes in front of the most priceless of paintings at the Louvre) “Ne Touchez Pas!” comes to mind. We’re screaming “Margielaaaaa”. Love. MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA couture spring 2014 selects by Brigitte Segura, written by by Dave Wilson.
