CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

LANVIN spring 2014 PFW

Lanvin’s spring 2014 runway show played out like a snapshot of the glitzy VIP line at Studio 54. Models sashayed down the catwalk in a haze of shimmering cocktail gowns and daywear made from an array of iridescent fabrics and sparkling accents. Lamé evening gowns in decadent jewel tones were softened by sumptuous silks in matching hues – inspired by the designer’s experience in a textile workshop in Florence.

Glamorous jewelry upped the show’s 80’s vibe, with chunky necklaces made from giant glass stones providing a cocktail-hour friendly twist. A more casual look was envisaged through a sapphire green jacket in metallic fabric paired with a full maxi skirt in a similar color palette. A striking little black dress with a plunging neckline and signature YSL short, evening jackets and black drainpipe pants proved fit for corporate attire.

The show took a Gatsy-themed detour with pretty flapper dresses and floaty shirtdresses, given a modern-day appeal through bold gold men’s loafers. Designer Alber Elbaz defined his latest offering as “an homage to the fabric industry”, and he didn’t fail to deliver, channelling the 70’s glam disco era through a range of differing silhouettes and textures in glittery hues.

A standout was an off-the-shoulder yellow gold shimmery dress with a cheeky split, held in check with a Lanvin bow. A sexy black trench with a cinched waist appeared almost as if designed for keeping you warm whilst waiting for a cab after a night of sizzling disco beats on the dance floor. Parachute silk coats and sporty sequin track pants were equally at home as the metallic lurex dresses in the shows dazzling display of shine.

Color was key in amid the audacious display of shine – glossy golds, fuchsia, purples, icy white-pinks, and browns graced the more than 60 types of fabrics featured in the collection, ranging from lace, tweed and brocade in a palette of jewel-fuelled tones. fdmLOVES LANVIN spring 2014 PFW selects by Brigitte Segura, written by Khia Mercer.
