KARA ROSS receives excellence in design award

Kara Ross jewelry shines, receiving the Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) Excellence in Design Award  for 2012.  The Awards for Excellence Gala event took place at Pier 60 [Chelsea Piers] and celebrated female innovators who have contributed to their businesses, organizations, and the overall jewelry industry.   ROSS’s Director of Jewelry, Brent Winston, shared at the event how WJA wonderfully creates a network for women such as ROSS to thrive in this competitive marketplace, and how the organization helps inspire a new generation of groundbreakers within jewelry design.

Kara Ross’s fascination with jewelry began at an early age- 13 to be exact. She made a family trip to Africa and checking out the continent’s gems into a chance to begin her calling. After selecting tourmaline, Ross went to Philadelphia’s Jeweler’s Row, and transformed the simple African gem into a memorable piece- creating a ring in a square cut with diamonds on a 18K gold band (a pretty stellar piece for such a young age !). This Georgetown grad was soon a certified gemologist after shortly working in advertising at Harper’s Bazaar. She put her expertise in creating unique looks for private clients to help start Kara Ross in 2003 and Kara Ross Gemstone Collection in fall 2010, which incorporates a variety of gems and animal skins throughout the globe within many accessories. Red-carpet regulars are often found donning her attractively modern jewels with the the likes of Oprah, Kate Hudson,  Eva Mendes, Eva Longoria,  Demi Moore, Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keys, Kate Beckinsale, Cameron Diaz, and Hilary Swank seen in her pieces.

Want a piece of the eye-candy ? You can find her cool jems at Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Net-a-Porter, and Bergdorf Goodman. Ross’s inspiring story shows how its never too soon to start designing, and how early inspiration can come center-stage – motivating!  by Mary Anderson.
