CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

GUY LAROCHE spring 2014 PFW

Genetic perfection among the models that walked the runway at Guy Laroche’s latest offering contributed to the lineup’s futuristic vibe for spring 2014. Inspired by Artistic director Marcel Marongiu’s nod to science fiction, the designer transported onlookers to a parallel universe through a range of utilitarian, wearable separates made from experimental fabrics and voluminous shapes.

The show opened with a hoodie made from a mix of silk and polyamide, paired with a flared above-the-knee skirt and fierce ankle-bracelet python heels. Iconic trench coats, bomber jackets, and playful bubble dresses in a color palette of black, white, shimmery gray, and mustard yellow gave the collection a “hanging out with the cool kids in downtown LA” vibe… think Rihanna’s wardrobe for her next trip with her posse.

A standout was a strapless box-pleated dress with a sack silhouette that graced the knee, the look given an otherworldly feel through slick, poker straight hair parted over one eye. Peppered into the mix were tweaked versions on classics, such as smart, white shirts with diamond-shaped gold buttons paired with black pants, and asymmetrically fastened blouses.

Fiber-optic fringing graced shimmering gray skirts and dresses, giving the spring 2014 range a flirty edge. Bilious dresses with curved hemlines and fabric that appeared to fold back on itself were featured with a range of differing necklines – strapless and boat neck. Structured jackets in muted hues help take the mix of dystopian urban separates from the hood to everyday work wear in the designer’s chic, pared-back lineup.
