CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

Erin Barr Spring Summer 2013

Erin Barr Spring Summer 2013 gave icons an updated look! Barr formed a fictional collab between the labyrinth and optic figures of modern artist Frank Stella and Marilyn Monroe’s heightened style within the late 1950’s. The collection shows the masculinity of Stella’s work in structured fabrics while paralleling it with the full-fledged femininity of Monroe, creating tomboy toughness with womenswear sweetness. See-thru button downs gave the slight sexiness of Monroe, while the irregular lines along the skirts revealed the modern-art inspiration of Stella. Cutouts and oversize peepholes on dresses gave sensuality to their long, ankle-skimming shapes. Barr gave leather lightness by pairing a quarter-length jacket over a black translucent skirt. Attention-grabbing pieces were shaped in bold red, while the muted gray looks gave a soothing effect to the overall collection.

about ERIN BARR: Erin’s unique approach to design comes from her past within the beauty aspect of the industry. The Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design + Parson’s School of Design alum is a Wisconsin native who now calls NYC home. Also, her Aveda Institute in Minneapolis grads background as a makeup+hair artist has given her the chance to work with a wide range of celebs at editorial shoots+high-end salons. To gain a wider perspective of the industry, she traded the hair brush for the sewing machine, which has given her a slew of success. After gaining an Alexander Wang internship and the role of Design Assistant at Cushnie Et Ochs, she kicked off her initial collection during the Spring 2012 season. We can’t wait for more from this designer ! Written by Mary Anderson. fdm selects by brigitte segura.
