Crisp and Cool at Balenciaga Resort 2014

Alexander Wang’s first resort collection with Balenciaga is so posh. Channeling inspiration from vintage Cristóbal Balenciaga himself, (and a trip to Spain’s costal Basque country) helped supply the design staff with traditional looks not found in the Paris archives. Mr. Balenciaga would be proud of Wang’s devotion and dedication to this line. It’s a fantastic step back in time with a dab of modern flavor!

Black, white and gray are the only colors featured on cropped pants, shorts and dresses. Toning down the house’s known volume, Wang switched up the styles and incorporated more subtle curves. The origami folds look stunning on the back of the dresses and shirts. The designer also chose to include Cristobal’s scribble and noise patterns in black and white.

The double -layered dresses are an exciting fresh look (love that silk underlay!), while I can see the bandeau boleros catching on in an instant. The buttons that resemble safety pins, and the actual land line phone cords used as bracelets, necklaces, and earrings make this resort line one of the most innovative to date. fdmLOVES BALENCIAGA resort 2014 selects by Brigitte Segura, written by Allison Ripa.
