CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

CHARLOTTE WELCH talks MICHAEL COSTELLO

CATCHING UP:  After the fashion month fall 2017 cycle,   we’re taking another look at memorable moments.   And on that fine snow day early at the NYFW shows this season, one of our WOW moments was coming in from the snow and straight to fun times at MICHAEL COSTELLO.   Big hair, 70’s disco vibes x 80’s lips and a hip + delicious styled parade of lace and flowing gowns rocked our snowy evening.

We took a hot minute to catch up with the stylist after the show, Charlotte Welch.

Here’s an exclusive FashionDailyMag Q +A with brigitteSegura:

Brigitte Segura:  What’s your secret sauce to styling ?

Charlotte Welch: My secret sauce is a mix of a good eye and a strong ear.  I think being a stylist is mostly about being able to know how to be creatively resourceful, which means that you should be smart, aware and tuned in all the time.

Brigitte: What’s the one styling tip we can take away from the Michael Costello show – that you think is hot.

Charlotte: Feel free to play with being hard and soft. Your look can be more than one note.  Style comes from a melody of notes coming together, not playing one note over and over.

Brigitte: so…let’s talk about the hair + bright lips… is this part of the look you selected to enhance the styling or this was michaels flashback to (70’s) moment for you to fit the pieces into?

Charlotte: Michael and I collaborate really well. Ultimately we choose what goes down the runway together. At times he takes the lead, and at other times, I do. For the makeup we worked really closely with Edward Cruz, our key makeup artist, and for the hair, that was a bit of a push and pull between Michael and I. But once Kien, our lead hair stylist tested it, we both knew it had to be the big hair. It was very important to me that we made all the white look like a color story as opposed to a bridal collection.

Brigitte: How involved does a stylist get with such a beauty statement for a show.

Charlotte: Hugely involved. The stylist is the one who executes the big picture, and beauty is there to highlight and accentuate the clothes. So it one of the bigger jobs as the stylist to build a beauty statement. Because beauty is such a huge part of a look, you want to make sure that it stands up to what the collection is saying, but it has to happen in a complimentary way. Its hard for a designer to get that much perspective without a stylist and the beauty team.
