CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

CATHERINE MALANDRINO fall 2013 NYFW

Catherine Malandrino interjected a fresh, no fuss approach to the fall winter 2013 woman. Dubbed “Le Normandie,” the collection sources art-deco artist Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann’s emphasis on simple lines, which is shown throughout the continual sleek silhouette. For day, that means sturdy textiles accentuated with graphic shapes while still sustaining moments of luxury such as velvet lining the edges of skirts. Mimicking the appearance of lace, velvet adorning the shape of shift dresses connected back to the artist’s focus on form, without all of the excess.

Playing with a variety of necklines from boat necks to v-necks to funnel-neck collars, the collection demonstrates how to cover (or show off) however much you desire. Cool midnight blues lightened and livened the collection while blacks, whites, nudes, tans, and burgandy’s allowed the pieces to enter fall territory. The head-to-toe velvet sleeveless top and trouser pairing will definitely be a fan-favorite look that could easily last beyond the functionality of fall. A variety of silhouettes were created including full skirts shaping curves and dark hooded trench coats adding a sense of mystery.

Evening wear for fall/winter means taking those darker hues and electrifying them in jewel tones. A high-frequency feel was created with black velvet ribbon wrapping around a floor-sleeping dress-definitely achieving Malandrino’s ideas of movement. Optical illusions using geometric shapes on dresses illustrated a formfitting hourglass look without the need of extra accessories. For Fall/Winter 2013, Malandrino shows how less is more.
