carine roitfeld: a stylish tête-à-tête

Earlier this month, Carine Roitfeld was featured at a speaking engagement presented by FIAF, aka French Institute Alliance Française. The talk was a part of the Creative Leaders series featuring French and American thinkers and doers influencing the cultural atmosphere of today.  The art of living in terms of cuisine, style, and architecture is explored by lecturers invited to share their inspirations, visions and plans for the future.

“I think my product is a dream… it’s a lot of fun.” Carine Roitfeld

no rivalry with Anna? “Never,” Roitfeld told the Cut.. “This, the press tries to do. I’ve worked with her. She’s very helpful. We’re so different, but I think she’s very special,” she said, before adding, “She invited my kids for dinner when they arrived in New York.”

Roitfeld, former Editor in Chief of French Vogue, was interviewed by Director of MoMA PS1 Klaus Biesenbach (Chief Curator at Large at The Museum of Modern Art). After decades of dedication to the fashion industry in various power-play roles, she has set off on her own venture, a bi-annual magazine aptly named CR Fashion Book. As the former model, fashion writer, muse, and stylist embarks on this journey she continues to fascinate us, revealing professional motivators as well as her personal stance on style and beauty before an eager fashionable audience.

About Carine Roitfeld: In 2011 a retrospective book of Roitfeld’s career called Irreverent was published. Most notably she acted as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris from 2001 to 2011, before that she served as stylist and muse to Gucci creative director Tom Ford in the 1990s. At eighteen she became a model after being scouted on the street in Paris, she then went on to become a writer and a stylist for French Elle. Collaborative projects with photographer Mario Testino helped propel her into the international spotlight.
