CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

CAMILLA and MARC spring 2013 campaign

Camilla and Marc go back to basics in their Spring 2013 “The Fundamentals” campaign. Don’t be fooled, “basics” definitely doesn’t mean boring with the eye-catching pieces they had to offer this season. Photographer Justin Riddler kept the girls looking striking by having them contrast against the gritty mysterious backdrop-showing how the looks suggest a light in the darkness. The kaleidoscope of colors within the campaign will leave you satisfied for a year-long range of looks from powerhouse prints to lights and pastels, to daring bright hues.

The chain stripe prints stretching across short dresses and a pantsuit weren’t overbearing, but rather minimalist by keeping the overall shape clean. The variety of colors were not only enticing, but also provided a segue to the different silhouettes and shapes within the season, thanks to the smart sleek styling from Camilla Freeman-Topper. The silhouette stayed streamlined to the body, by keeping moments of volume balanced by their stricter counterparts. Think a billowing army green anorak that looked even more powerful when paired with a slim, yet slouched trouser. Interjecting a skater skirt, yet still keeping the tops narrow to the form, giving the looks a gravity-defying effect.

From the hemlines to the necklines, Camilla and Marc molded asymmetry into a variety of day to night looks, always harkening back to the Japanese wabi-sabi inspiration (which is a happy medium between simplicity and imbalance). Whether it’s the onyx one-shouldered blueprint dress or the overlapping lapels of the jackets, the brand redefined what perfection should be.

In the midst of all the swirls of color, a brief graphic monochromatic dress with a ruffled hem was a striking conversation piece within the looks. In the collection, cutouts took center stage. They transitioned from solely on the shoulders of a pink dress to a luxe lace jumpsuit (no imagination necessary !). Adding gold hardware onto dramatic draped looks propelled them into everyday territory, while making them seem less cocktail and much more casually chic. Tough denim and soft stretch leathers played nicely when placed next to etherial lighter textures like cotton in khaki, white and navy. The label demonstrates that luxury can be a daily experience as the labor-intensive 3-D ribbing and heavy embroidery let the looks have an underlying complexity -plus,  the technique can be the wearer’s own little secret. CAMILLA and MARC spring 2013 campaign photos by Justin Riddler, written by Mary Anderson.
