’tis bryant park tree lighting | Skating into the holiday season

Citi Pond at Bryant Park held its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, Tuesday November 27th, kicking off the eighth season of ice skating in mid-town Manhattan. The Norway Spruce tree is 55’ tall outfitted in 3,000 custom fabricated ornaments and 30,000+ LED lights. The rink night was celebrated with seasonal delights through entertainment, shopping, dining, and of course ice skating.

The big event featured an array of musical acts including Grace Potter (Grammy nominated singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals), Tony award winning Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell (new album “Simply Broadway”), and local talent: Brooklyn Youth Chorus (Grammy award-winning), and a Drum Line Routine by “Drums of Thunder” of Hillside Elementary School. On ice performances included U.S. National synchronized skating champions, Haydenettes, as well as the Kerrs, an Olympic figure skating and ice dancing team. To top it off, an acrobatic trampoline show by Flippenout Extreme Team was also showcased. Written by Sarah A. Freiseis.

Citi Pond at Bryant Park is Manhattan’s first and only free admission ice skating rink; it has been open since October 26, 2012 this year and will run through March 3, 2013.
