Boy meets girl at MARNI Pre-Fall 2013

As fall 2013 RTW fashion week nears, we look forward to seeing what edgy appeal designer Consuelo Castiglioni decides to take on her collection, and this season was no exception. Marni winter edition 2013 took a playful approach,  throwing the modern woman a masculine curve ball. One of the intriguing impressions pre-fall left us with was the school girl concept: the short-sleeved, pressed, button down had played two roles: one in between collared and the other crew necked, all of course, in traditional uniform colors: black, burgundy, white, and beryl (a deeper navy).

Much of the collection consisted of autumn-like colors that resembled the desolate leaves. The skirts were pleated and tailored just a few rebellious centimeters above the knee, in shades that had blockaded the blouses. Of course, no schoolgirl uniform is complete without a pair of trusty knee-high stockings, which Castiglioni incorporated into his ensembles extremely well, pairing them with his skirts and dresses alike. The dresses stood out as striking, displaying propelling patterns using geometric florals and alluring necklines, playing between modest and valiant. Geometry was a key component in the Marni collection, as each piece had a boxy and linear approach.

The masculine, sporty trouser seemed to bountiful in the pre-fall collection bouncing from color to color across a wide palette: the colors ranging from scorched coral, metallic blue and musky green down to the darker granites, charcoals and blacks. Color blocking has been a common attribute to Marni collections season after season, and Pre-Fall 2013 was no exception: olive and bordeaux colors complemented the crèmes and were tied together with caviar black lining. The fuzzy outerwear seemed to add a feminine elegance to the sporty boyfriend-fitted collection, brilliantly contouring the masculine aspect, also depicted in the footwear collection.

The shoe assortment included leather loafers and sneakers dressed in neutral basic fall hues: caramel, pearl, and onyx trimmed with pear green details. The line took business chic to new heights, as the modern woman was able to flash back to her elementary days while embracing a contemporary yet professional look. The Marni Pre-Fall collection definitely hit a home run in the trend department. Bravo, Consuelo, we look forward to seeing what you have in store for us for fall 2013. fdmloves selects from MARNI winter edition 2013 by Brigitte Segura, Written by Julia Paulescu.
