CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

ANYA CALIENDO millinery spring 2014

Anya Caliendo’s spring 2014 offering played out like a parade of lust-worthy must-haves for next year’s racing season, all of which are sure to turn heads come Kentucky Derby day. The 36-piece collection, titled “Confessions,” marked the first millinery collection to show at New York Fashion Week in what seems like decades. It’s about time the ladylike wardrobe staple is destined for a comeback stateside.

Inspired by a childhood filled with sparkling white snow and gold-domed churches, Caliendo’s range of whimsical, feathered headpieces were adorned with intricate beading and silk flowers – perfect for a day at the track. A standout was the lineup’s “Daydreamer” piece, which featured gold-dipped birch trees hanging seductively over the face. Another striking number was a pale pink masterpiece that towered like a blossoming rose, peppered with layers of soft tulle.

In what was perhaps a nod to the international horse racing legend of the same namesake, the designer’s “Caviar” creation was encrusted with Swarovski crystals, crafted by hand. A bright pink neon wide-brim, one-sided hat added a funky, youthful vibe to the otherwise ladylike mix, which featured accents such as calligraphy font on a gold top hat with pink rosettes and black tulle.

Also keeping the collection playful were Alice In Wonderland-inspired, Matt Hatter-like paper bag headpieces covered with a floral print and cinched at the crown with pretty ribbon and hand-crafted roses. Taking the look from the track to the ballroom were a series of dramatic black fascinators with layer-upon-layer of feathers and intricate beading – the perfect accessory to glam up any outfit come spring! fdmLOVES ANYA CALIENDO millinery spring 2014 selects by Brigitte Segura, written by Khia Mercer.
