CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

ALL about menswear with Thom Browne

We’re still revved from the latest round of menswear collections that showed during NYFW.  Over the last few seasons,  the mens market has been blooming and more labels are popping up both domestically and abroad. It’s not just about the quantity for the guys, quality in terms of design, fabrication, and overall aesthetic are being presented. From the dapper gentleman to the edgy leather guy, bordering on avant-garde.  It seems finally, guys can come out of the restrictive box of what to wear.. now that’s a positive change for our viewing pleasure.

In a recent WWD article from the Menswear Summit,   several major players including Thom Browne, who is incidentally nominated for a CFDA award for menswear 2013, and Scott Schuman (the Sartorialist) discussed what is spurring on the menswear movement and trends.  From tried and trues to the youthful uprising, the roles may vary but the menswear momentum is solid.  Here are some highlights and quotes from a couple of our favorite guys du jour.

Commenting on his grey suit, Thom Browne said:

“I wanted to create something that was timeless. That was really important. I had no interest in trends or creating something that was going to be there for a couple years and then rethink, ‘What do I want to do now?’ Because every collection, even as crazy as they are now, they always start from this gray suit.”

As reported by the Women’s Wear story, other topics up for discussion at the Third Annual Fairchild Fashion Media Menswear Summit of NYC addressed specific trends driving the sector, the ever important social media and e-tailing targeting the modern man, and the Made in America efforts. Beyond Browne, speakers included Calvin Klein’s Kevin Carrigan and Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony and Kenzo. In looking back we’re realizing the magnitude of the menswear shows we’ve covered for both Spring and Fall 2013, quite impressive and impressionable eye candy to say the least. When it comes to fashion – it’s the more the merrier we say.  And well, menswear indeed needs a fashionable revival.. aren’t we tired of the same old uniform we see on everyone already?  We’re all about menswear too as we’ve recently launched a blog dedicated to guys only, fdmlovesmens on tumblr…Commentary: Brigitte Segura, written by Sarah Freiseis.
