CURATED LUXURY LIFESTYLE FASHION ART and WELLNESS magazine NYC curating good vibes by BRIGITTE SEGURA

A City Escape For Your Hair: Salon Ruggeri

We all know hair is a very precious thing, and in NYC, there are hundreds options to get your hair done. It’s overwhelming to decide where to go, who to request, but we found a little gem to make the decision easier. Located in a gorgeous brownstone in the Murray Hill neighborhood, Salon Ruggeri is its own masterpiece. Filled with colorful art, the beautifully decorated interior invites you to immediately relax, and ‘come home’ to get a princess hair makeover.

Originally from Australia, “revered” international stylist and colorist Gregorio Ruggeri and interior designer Craig Longhurst both had dreams of moving their successful salon business to New York. This soon became a reality and we’re so happy it did. The salon is now also home to stylist John Carter-  a true hair aficionado, which our editor [Brigitte] had the pleasure of meeting and getting her locks styled by recently.

“It’s such an ‘out of the city’ experience… there’s so sign on the door. It’s like visiting your longtime friends with amazing (hair) skills… saying hi for a bit over good coffee and walking out (fast and) fabulous.” – Brigitte

As an established hair dresser, colorist and make up artist extrodinaire, John Carter joins the Ruggeri dream team with an impressive 20-plus year career.  John, who works as creative director in Television for select TV specials and appearances, also privately meets with actresses and businesswomen giving them his hair wonder touch. Even Vera Wang  has referred her bridal clients to him for a dose of  the hair mastery.

“I felt like a princess being taken care of by a Hair Master, my hair was even styled with a lift while I was getting some color magic. No stress, flawless execution and “love my hair” results without re-arranging my whole day!” – BS

Going in originally for a mid-summer color touch-up, our editor Brigitte Segura ended up with a root touch-up, highlights, a little glaze and a trim that took less than two hours to complete.  She learned quickly why this salon has such fiercely loyal clientele, as John managed a last minute hair color emergency simultaneously while doing her hair,  business as usual at Ruggeri. No drama or waiting… and the woman (with the emergency) walked out with a gorgeous color, her hair mid back length, styled and colored back to beautiful.

Truly in a city escape, Salon Ruggeri is one-of-a-kind.  A gorgeous chandelier hangs from the ceiling, and the artwork has been hand-picked by a very skilled eye, and many have been imported from Australia. The whole vibe is warm and aesthetically pleasing… like someone’s fantastic living room. No sterile ‘salon’ feel here, you’re instantly transcended into a relaxing atmosphere. Not only is the decorating exquisite, the stylists are experts in their craft.

“I believe everyone wants to look their best and I am here to make that happen.” -John Carter

Named in ‘Best Of New York’ by New York mag and featured in In Style’s beauty ‘Black Book’ soon after opening, the salon is now expanding more in Bridal.  John Carter additionally brings an editorial view from working on shoots including American, British and Japanese Vogue, Elle, Towne & Country, Martha Stewart, New York Mag, and The Knott.  And JC’s famed “special day” expertise just adds to the Ruggeri experience. No need to wait to get married, though. See for yourself. The salon is located at 115 East 37th Street New York, NY, and yes, you actually have to buzz to get in.  Fancy that!
